Get to know a bit about Jes

As a  full spectrum doula (birth, postpartum, conception, miscarriage, abortion, and adoption) and photographer I work with expecting parents throughout all of Berlin to support them through their pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum journeys. Through my numerous trainings (see below) I have accumulated an education that I feel best serves the families I work with and my personal interests to create a solid foundation in working with a large variety of pregnancies outcomes and birthing needs.

I came to the field of birth through a passion for bodily autonomy, reproductive justice, and passion for a positive fourth trimester. Little did I know it would  bring me back again to my original passion of photography and a new one, birth work. As a birth companion, I prepare, guide, and help pregnant people find their confidence and sense of empowerment for their individual birth experiences. As a birth and newborn photographer, I work with parents to document their special moments to last a lifetime with the calm and understanding presence of someone who already works in the field of birth. My mission is to relieve new parents and put them at ease to help support them through their memorable birthing and postpartum journeys.

I’m an Irish-American who has lived here in Berlin for the past seven years. I’ve been working in childcare, learning German, running a small community arts space, and working in the field of reproductive justice. I have a strong passion for gardening, spending my free time with my endless craft projects, and topics around alternative community. Throughout the last three and half years I’ve been supporting families as a doula and have also volunteered with pregnant refugee women to attempt to help their arrival and pregnancies in Berlin be as comfortable for them and their families.  I also run a monthly queer family building meet-up group to discuss topics around trying to conceive, pregnancy, and parenting.

I believe that every pregnant person should have the support and encouragement to engage and decide on what is best for their pregnancy and birth. I would be delighted to be a part of this journey with you.

Happy Clients

Jes was wonderful. The birth of our daughter was thankfully without any serious complications or surprises. Jes’s quiet presence gave us just the right amount of reassurance that we believe contributed to the great outcome and to the overall positive experience. The few hiccups we encountered here and there, Jes was able handle with ease of an expert. Were we to have another child in the future, we would not hesitate to hire Jes to be our doula again!

Jes really saved our lives! Having her in our home, supporting me, my partner and our older son was the best decision we made that year, turning what could have been a fraught experience into the most calm, enjoyable and special time imaginable. She instinctively knew what I needed, whether that was to spirit the baby away for an hour while I napped; to play with our older son and make him feel really special, or to listen to me when I re-lived the birth over and over!
